Woman arrested for impersonating Delhi cop, cheating people of crores for years

A 24-year-old woman posing as a police sub-inspector has been arrested by the Sahwa Police in Rajasthan’s Churu district for impersonating a police officer and committing fraud worth crores. The woman, identified as Anju Sharma, was reportedly found impersonating a Delhi Police sub-inspector and extorting money from individuals in various regions including Churu, Hanumangarh, Fatehabad, Sirsa, and Panipat.
Sharma, who has failed her 10th-grade exams three times, had allegedly been running a scam by pretending to be a high-ranking police officer, using a fake police ID card, uniform, and VIP access passes. The Sahwa Station House Officer, Alka Vishnoi, stated that Anju Sharma had been falsely presenting herself as a Delhi Police SI, taking advantage of her position to extort large sums from unemployed youth by promising them government jobs.
After gathering intelligence, Sahwa police detained Sharma for questioning, during which she revealed that she had been operating this scam for the past three years while residing in Delhi. She admitted to deceiving family members, relatives, and neighbours by claiming she could secure government positions in exchange for significant fees.
One case filed against her involved a resident of Rajasthan’s Banera, Arjun Lal Nai, who reported that Sharma had taken Rs 12.93 lakh from him by promising to arrange a head constable position within the Delhi Police.
The police also discovered videos of Sharma dressed in a Delhi Police uniform on her mobile phone. Officer Vishnoi said that Sharma had been leading a lavish lifestyle funded by the proceeds of her scams. She married last year in Haryana in an extravagant ceremony.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to trace the extent of her fraud activities.
